First Steps in Pottery

Class Time: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Class Length: 18 hours (6 classes)

Cost: $150 per student
Clay Fee: $25 per student

During this beginning pottery class students of all levels of experience will learn and explore 4 different techniques using 2 different kinds if clay. A solid foundation will be provided by instructing students in safe, creative ways to work with clay. Students will make, fire, and glaze a multitude of different forms including but not limited to small, large, functional, decorative, and sculptural. Students are encouraged to learn and explore in a fun casual yet informative group setting.

Keep a Bowl - Give a Bowl

Class Length: 6 hours (2 classes)

Cost: $20 per student
Supply Fee: $10 per student (includes everything needed to create 2 complete bowls)

Local artist, Terry Buffington, will guide students through all the steps needed to create 2 soup bowls. Students do not need to have any experience with pottery to participate in this fun and educational class in support of the Empty Bowls Charity event. Each student will have 1 bowl to keep and enjoy as well as 1 bowl to donate to support the event.

Pottery, A Creative Journey

Thursdays, September 6 - October 11, 2018

Class Time: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Class Length: 18 hours (6 workshops)

Cost: $150 per student
Clay Fee: $25 per student

During this class students will be challenged to use the foundation they learned in the First Steps class or in other workshops. This will entail more complex forms as well as combining the various building methods into one vessel. Students will be given an overall project to work on and complete by the end of the workshop. Other projects will be assigned weekly.

The class includes basic techniques for beginners, elements & principles of design for experienced potters, and experimenting with different techniques. Experienced potters should bring samples of their work to determine what is needed to improve.
